You should fold almost as much as you play. One of the biggest mistakes I used to make when I first started out was playing for every pot. My hand ranking didn’t matter to me. I just wanted to compete with every hand. Once I dropped that mentality I started to reduce my starting hand range, removing trash, my win-rate increased. Even though I was viewed as an annoying, solid player, it didn’t interfere with me getting action. Learning to fold, often, was a game-changing moment in my career

Don’t over chase draws

I have found that a lot of beginners pay too much for their draws. You should Always know what your pot odds are and by understanding basic poker math, it will help you do that.
In short, you do not want to be calling with your draw if your hand odds are worse than your pot odds. There are articles you can read which provides examples of how to calculate this.

Don’t Play Games You Don’t Understand

It makes more sense for you to take the time to learn and practice the game before thinking of playing and going up against the big boys. I have seen players lose a lot of money when they first start out because they are just getting their grips on the game, and letting their egos play the game for them. Just fold in games that you are weakest in and play the ones that you have an edge.
