My name is Fabrice Touil, and I’m a professional poker player. This article is part 1 of my story on why I decided to go pro.
When I was a child, I didn’t always want to be a professional poker player. First, I took interest in other cards games. Ones that my grandmother would teach me and eventually when I learned about poker, I became interested and wanted to learn the ins and outs of it. It was very confusing at first, there were many hands, and the rules were strict. However, I was drawn to the sport. I loved the idea of bluffing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the strategic aspect of the game. By the time that I was a late teenager, I was already vastly different than the average teenage boy. In Paris, most of my friends loved football or tennis, but I was fascinated by poker.
I began to pursue my career in poker when my father encouraged me to follow my dreams. He told me, “Fabrice, you must be happy with what you do. Never settle for something that you hate because you will have to stick with it for a long time. Get it right the first time, be happy, and success will come.”
His words stuck with me and inspired me. It was really important that I had the support of my parents. Their encouragement made me feel secure, and it helped me become the professional poker player that I am today.
